Divinely Supplied Nourishment

Manna doesn't just sustain you, it moves you forward. The wilderness was hot, dry, and lifeless. Complaints trickled out of the Israelite community, like the roar of a never ending waterfall. They wanted food. They wanted comfort. They wanted Egypt. In the Lord's amazing kindness, however, he provides them with manna- divinely supplied nourishment. I don’t know about you, but I know I need divinely supplied nourishment as well. Every single morning, every day, every minute. Because God provides manna to propel us forward in the process.
Often we are like the Israelites. We want to go back to Egypt, we are caught up in the past, overlooking the challenges we faced and only remembering the comfortability. I know I have tried to hang onto relationships that God has already asked me to move away from. But it's hard, because it's comfortable. Sometimes we expect God to move in a certain way or revival to happen how it always has, but God has already moved on. He is Emmanuel, God with us. Not God stuck in the past, not waiting for you in the future, he is present. Yes, he uses the past to shape us and he is holding our futures, but he is not limited to what he has done. That’s why I find this part of Exodus 16 so powerful, “ Then Moses told them, ‘Do not keep any of it until morning.’ But some of them didn’t listen and kept some of it until morning. But by then it was full of maggots and had a terrible smell.” Exodus 16:19-20. They couldn’t save their divinely supplied nourishment. Not because God wanted to inconvenience them, but because he was providing fresh manna every morning. He wasn’t allowing them to hold onto the past. He was not allowing them to dwell on Egypt, but challenging them to daily receive fresh strength that would move them towards the promise land.
“After this(the maggots in the manna) the people gathered the food morning by morning, each family according to its need.” Exodus 16:21. They were dependent each morning on the Lord to provide. We see in Isaiah 50:4 "Morning by morning he awakens me and opens my understanding to his will.” Lamentations 3:22-23, “His mercies are new every morning.” Zephaniah 3:5, “At dawn he appears without fail.” There is a consistent pattern of how God is providing fresh revelation, new mercies, and showing his faithfulness if we commit to daily collecting our manna from him. He is our daily bread. Through his divinely supplied nourishment, he is moving us forward in our journeys. Jesus modeled daily dependence on the Father so well, "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35. Was this convenient? No. Was it necessary? Yes. In 1 Kings 19 we see Elijah ready to give up on life, he says to the Lord, “I have had enough, Lord, take my life for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.” 1 Kings 19:4. But the Lord replies to him, “Get up and eat!” and again the angel of the Lord appears to him saying, “Get up and eat again or the journey ahead will be too much for you.” The past season will exhaust us. There will be times when we want to give up, but the Lord is not finished with us. Get up and eat. It's time to stop slumbering and be nourished by the revelation of the Father or else the journey ahead will be too much for us. Manna is not an option, it is a necessity.
It’s easy to miss what God is offering because it sometimes feels inconvenient, for example, the Lord said, “Get up,” meaning to arise, awake early and stand, Elijah had to stop wallowing in his circumstance and strengthen himself in the Lord. Doing the inconvenient because of obedience to the Father is ALWAYS worth it. God is teaching us from the past, nourishing us in the present, and empowering us for the future. When you commit to daily manna from the Lord it is life changing. It pulls you closer to his heart and one step further to the promise land. As we begin 2026 may we continue to seek the manna of heaven every day so that we can walk fully satisfied in whatever we face. We know the Lord will provide. We know his plans are better than ours, and we know that he will continue to nourish our souls as we depend on his divinely supplied nourishment.
